RE: Your First Bookstore Reading - Comedy Open Mic Round 29

in #blog6 years ago

I was hooked, for the obvious reasons, when I saw it was a YA novel. Okay, maybe not so obvious but we know some people in their 40s that have taken to poorly writing YA novels, as if they were young adults still.

None of the references are relevant anymore and no kids would understand any of the jokes, but they still go to the local book readings and try to promote them.

What kept me going through this was the excellent writing. I'm so happy that you came to Steemit and stuck it out. I think you have a great comedic mind and look forward to it every time I see your name in COM.

Thanks for the deep laughs.

Thank you. Likewise, I love your stuff.

Funny story about my first bookstore reading for American Zeroes. Halfway through it, a guy wandered in who was clearly off his meds. He took a seat in the middle of the audience and started adding incomprehensible commentary. My options were:

a) Tell him they were handing out free Thorazine in the alley.
b) Ask my buddy Matt, who's built like a gorilla, to "handle him."
c) Ignore him and be grateful he represented another audience member.

Oh, and the reading was being streamed live over Facebook.

I went with option "c" and I'm glad I did because:

a) I found out what was happening on Zeta Reticuli.
b) I found out what it must've been like to meet Syd Barrett.
c) He was one of the few who bought a copy of my book.

I'm glad he bought a copy of my book because:

a) ...

Hahaha, keep going.
