What is Mental Health?

That’s a very good question! What is mental health? There are many things that can identify as mental health. We’ll stick to the basic definition for now, mental health deals with our emotions and our overall health. When you’re tired and have had a long day listening to your body and getting rest not only helps your physical body, it also helps your mental health.
When not caring for your mental health and only your body things seem to get tough right? It’s harder to think or focus, small tasks that were no problem before seem bigger, and you’re over all exhausted after doing little to nothing. That’s when it’s time to have a mental health day.
A mental health day? What possibly could that be? Well I’ll tell you! A mental health day is simply a day just for you. It’s your day dedicated to nothing more than just taking a break and taking care of yourself. You know it’s time for a mental health day when your asking yourself “Why am I so tired?” or feeling like it’s always been this way and tired has become your default emotion. Tired is something you can be not something you are, try not to ignore what your body is telling you.
Your body signals your brain for a reason, If something is wrong, you'll be told. Listen to your physical body when you can, it may be signaling something is wrong with your “Mental body” in other words you may be experiencing poor mental health.
If you’re feeling unsure about whether or not your mental health is in good condition, see if you can relation yourself to these statements:

Am I always this tired?
Have I always felt this worthless?
Why can’t I get back on my feet?
Why do I not have the energy to call my family?
I’m irritated at everything and I can’t figure out why!

If you feel like you connect to these statements in anyway, more than likely you need to step back and think about what’s making you feel this way, and ask yourself how can I help myself feel better. Mental Health affects everyone it’s just a matter of realizing it and working through it.
Mental Health contributes to our day to day lives and the quality we might get from that day. For example if I had poor mental health my day to day life would not be as satisfying as if I had great mental health.
Mental well-being doesn’t have to be difficult. In the next few posts I hope to help identify different types of mental health and ways to help identify mental health issues.
