BIG ROCK UPDATE: 71 pound Mahi

in #blog6 years ago (edited)

The 60th annual BIG ROCK Fishing tournament continues today with only 2 more days of fishing remaining for the 180+ boats that are competing for the $2 million USD purse. This is the largest prize money in the history of the BIG ROCK tournament which is now in it’s 60th year.

A very large Mahi was caught yesterday nearly matching the state record for North Carolina. The Mahi was brought in by anglers on the GOOMBAY boat out of Kannapolis, NC.

The winner in the MAHI MAHI division will take home a whopping $146,200! With the state record size for this fish at only 5 lbs over what GOOMBAY caught, I think they are in a good position to win.

Update on the Blue Marlin Division with over $1million on the line

There are still no other Blue Marlins boated over 518 lb which was brought in by HONEY HUSH on Tuesday. If no other boat brings in a bigger Blue, then HONEY HUSH is to win $753,875.

At this point only 81 of the 180+ boats are able to fish the remaining 2 days, since competitors are allowed to fish four of the six fishing days and must notify officials of the days they intend to fish. The competition runs from 9am to 3pm and any fight that stars before 3pm can continue until the hook up reaches a resolution.

There is a lot of money on the line this year and it’s going to be a big celebration this Saturday. Stay tuned.
