Are you corrupt?

That depends on your interpretation of the word. Used in the media it gives off an aura of large scale, big money manipulation and rule breaking.

Definition of corruption:

1. The act or fact of making, becoming, or being corrupt.
2. Evil or wicked behaviour. Depravity.
3. Bribery or similar dishonest dealings.
4. Decay, putridity, rottenness.
5. Something corrupted, as an improperly altered word or text.

According to Collins English dictionary, it has roughly that meaning but can also be used in terms of evil or dishonest dealings.

Now corruption is everywhere. I’m corrupt. I know that my government is corrupt and I’m positive that the majority of large scale organisations are corrupt.

I won’t pay any tax or government fee that I can avoid. Earnings tax, car tax, water taxes ect... Now surely as an upstanding member of society I should just hand over my money to them as they require and happily go about my day.
But I can’t. Because I know how corrupt they are. Bribes, contracts for friends, large expense bills are only the surface of their corruption. They fact that they cannot actually run the country is only secondary to the fact that they intentionally are only out for what they can get from their positions of power.

I actually pay quite high taxes from my wages and would not begrudge that for a second for the proper running of my country and its people if I did not have to spend every day reading the papers about the health crisis, the homeless crisis, the poverty crisis.... (insert relevant crisis here)... which are one after another.
Then you read on the next page about government foreign trips, over claiming expenses, billions spent on consultants and payouts from the courts for nothing. It’s enough to drive anybody insane.

So am I corrupt? YES! And not ashamed to be either.

My next question lies on Steemit. Is the platform corrupt?

I see so much to like on here, from the communities that have formed, to the users that dedicate their time to growing the platform. Meet-ups all over the world and the help that is out there for minnows.

Then I see the bad. The flagging wars, bid-bots, reward pool issues...

Right now for me, the good far outweighs the bad. But we are only at the starting line here and my main fear is if STEEM gets to $20 or $30 in value what changes will happen. And it will reach these values. With the work going on in the various STEEM based platforms it is only a matter of when not if.

We all know however that money corrupts. It has been this way throughout history and no matter how good intention are at the start, it is a very rare group that can keep these intentions pure when there are fortunes at stake.

Can we as a group keep the intentions pure, help and support its new members and grow the platform as a whole with everybody growing or do we follow society in general with the rich getting richer and all the money sitting at the top???
