This mushroom is found in the local regions of North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia where it grows in clusters located mostly on oak, birch, and beech trees.
Fascinating video, @mraza. And the presenter was very knowledgable. Slime moulds - as he explained - shouldn't even have been in the video (if they're no longer classed as fungi) but otherwise it was very interesting.
For someone with a degree in a biological science, I have to say I kind of neglected fungi over the years. I can probably recognise button mushrooms if I found them growing in the wild. I can certainly identify Psilocybe semilanceata - the Liberty cap mushroom - as it's my go-to hallucinogenic mushroom of choice. I'm also fairly sure the beer, Carlsberg, will have gotten its name from the yeast, Saccharomyces carlsbergensis. But other than all that, I just know (/ knew) the basic biology of that kingdom of life-forms. And that I do like the taste of the edible ones! :)
Do you like mushrooms? Ever pick them? Some of them are very beautiful / bizarre in appearance, aren't they (including a fair few in the video)? Hell, you can even buy kits to grow them yourself, nowadays. Maybe a future hobby for me as I get older....
Good post. :)
