I grew up in a small town in west TN. My family was devoutly religious, so I basically grew up in a baptist church. For many years, one thing I never did was actually read the Bible for myself. I've recently picked up my old Bible with the intention of finishing the New Testament with my own eyes and mind.
Whether you believe in the validity of the Bible or not, there is an incredible amount of wisdom and understanding of the human condition to be grasped from reading and seeking understanding. People of all levels of spiritual vibration, from not spiritual to the ultra-spiritual, can gain insight from reading the same passage. It seems to speak directly to whatever angle of life you arrive at the text from. Sorry for the tangent here, but I guess what I'm getting at is that there is a reason these books are the most widely read and sold around the world.
