Another Month Another Book - I Think I Found My Favourite!

in #blog7 years ago

Well, again, today I've finished another book. I can say that this was by far the best American Novel I've read so far! Before reading this one, I didn't know much about the storyline or what to expect in general! Since this book was a little chubby compared to the previous reads, I was expecting that it would take me a while to finish it. Well, I went through it at lightning speed. I didn't start on day one of the month, but I finished with still 7 days to spare!

Everything I've read for this challenge!

My challenge, reading one book a month, is still going strong! By the end of next month, I will be halfway through the year. Time flies!

The books I've read so far in this challenge:

Looking back at this list, I realize they were al great reads!

Past month's read: To Kill A Mockingbird - Harper Lee

This book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee was given to me as a Christmas gift from my parents in law. My Girlfriend is American, and her parents really want me to read some American classics!

Well, I understand why this book is considered a classic! The story revolves around a young girl Jean Louise Finch, or "Scout" in the 1930's. Together with an older brother Jeremy (Jem) and her dad Atticus Finch, she lives in Maycomb Alabama. In this small town, all kinds of thing happen. Her dad, Atticus Finch, is a lawyer in Maycomb and is raising his kids all by himself. The mother died when Scout and Jem were still very young.

The thing that intrigued me the most, is the true-ness of the characters. Atticus Finch is an honorable man, loved by many. He raises his children in a very respectful manner. Teaches them many life lessons and important traits. In many ways, he can be an example for everyone!

I really don't want to spoil the story, so I won't tell you anything more. All I can do is recommend you to read this novel, it's great!

So What's Next?

Well, the next read will be another surprise to me. Its Dubliners by James Joyce (Uh ooh!). It's a collection of short stories that are about things happening in and around Dublin. The reason why I picked this book comes in twofold:

  1. Since a long time, I've been listening to a San Fransico based band called Two Gallants. I've even seen them live a couple of times. Recently, I was looking up where their name comes from. Although I didn't find a clear answer, some say it comes from a short story by James Joyce which, you guessed it, is part of Dubliners. I figured lest give this story a try!
  2. The second reason actually scares me a little. A very well known classic by James Joyce is the book Ulysses. I bought this book a few years ago and took many attempts to read it. I never passed past 60 or 70 pages. Left totally confused and lost! Even though (for now) I failed in reading Ulysses, I thought I might give some of his other work a try!

Let's hope the short story Two Gallants is as good as the music! And secondly, let's hope this one is an easy read compared to Ulysses!

Here a video by Two Gallants, enjoy!

I also love this music video by the way!

Future reads

Well, I haven't decided what to read for future months. I can assure you it won't be Ulysses given the one-month schedule ^^ Although I've already received many book recommendations, I'm always open to new suggestions!

Thanks for stopping by!

Sort:

if you want more reading suggestions I highly recommend All the light we cannot see by Anthony Doerr, and Never let me go by Kazuo Ishiguro. 😍

Thanks, I'll add them to my list! Maybe you'll see a post later this year about it :)

I could never take that challenge, as it is hard for me to commit. :P

It's easier than you think, you should try it :) Thanks for stopping by!

My pleasure! :D
