Why You Should STOP Watching The News!

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

I don't think I'm gonna say what you're going to expect me to say in this post so let's have a go shall we?

Fake or Not?

I don't really care that much if the news is fake or not. Hmmm, that's not really true. I do care, yet it's not my point of this post. Yes of course sometimes the news is being influenced by personal opinion of people making it, misjudgement, misinformation or even because a government is imposing skewed news. However that is not main the reason why you shouldn't watch it.stop.jpg

Influence

Unless if you are teaching at a University or a Journalist yourself the news hardly influences your life. Think about it!

Economy

Let's say the average spending power per capita drops 1% in a country over the year. How does this really influence you? Even if you are part of people being affected it simply means that if you purchase 4 loaves of bread, in one of them there will be one slice missing. OOOOH big deal! And now, whether you know about it or not, it still happened.

Safety

Yeah sure you can read or watch all you want about crime rates. Fact of the matter is, it hardly influences you. Just because the crime rate went up 14% or down 8% doesn't mean you are actually gonna find a burglar in your house, or not. It's just perception. I'm not saying it wouldn't influence you if you would happen to be the poor bastard to get mugged or robbed. However chances of this happening are very slim, and simply knowing about it by watching the news isn't going to chance a single thing.

Politics

I have a lot of thoughts when it comes to politics and politicians and YES it is super important to vote and speak your mind. However, is watching the news really gonna help with that? Especially with debates demonstrating different ideas and qualities of leadership as compared to the actual way politicians run our countries? Your influence on politics is extremely marginal except if you partake yourself.

Bottom Line

If you really want your wage to increase with 2%or 3% simply work 1/2 hour a week more instead of watching the news. If you really want to prevent burglary in your house, purchase proper locks and close your windows. If you really care about politics, join a party, or a demonstration. However simply 'being informed' on a day to day basis with content, information and opinions that are most likely skewed is not going to change a damn thing in your life ;)

All media lies and make you think you're not special for everyone if you're against them. The role of the new was to inform about what happen in the world we're living. Untill someone puts its hairy hands and started using news as a weapon to keep the mind slavery...

@maikelblogo yes. However that was not the point of the post ;) what did you think about the rest? About the influence of having 'macro statistic knowledge' on your 'micro statistic life'

In the way about how media makes influence in the people. I want to expose some examples:

  • The govern announces a plan to increase a salary for workers. Then, some of the disagreed people post an article about how harassing is the increasing of the salary for the economy -the real thing is THAT increase is affecting them as logical- and then everything goes exagerated. The results of people believing in that diseagreed person is making other people diagreed and the lobby is activated to avoid the increasing by exposing believable reasons.
  • Someone make an accusation on an influent person about corruption with a purpose of not involving in its interests or some colective interests.

In other way, when media says the world is over. People are scared. And when the media says that there is not another way to prospeer, people become disapointed with themselves. That makes the living statistic about feelings after reading news papers or watching the TV about something which affect people.

@maikelblogo yes that is true :) It affects us in our feelings, yet hardly in our reality. As in, yes the events that are happening affect us, yet the knowing about those events hardly does, except for the way we feel :)

thanks for your input!

I must confess, at first I was really tempted to prove you were wrong. I tried to find false or illogical statements in your post...and to my own surprise could not find any!
Now, being a reasonable person I must agree with you. Even though TV news seem important they actually have very little effect on my life.

Hey @beetlevc thanks haha :) I'm happy to hear that! I love to find little things I don't agree with when people say or write something because I want to make sure I'm not just 'absorbing information without a filter'. But hey, to be honest, I also watch the news now and then just to be sure I'm not completely unaware of what is going on. However, I watch maybe 10-15 minutes a day and that's it. It can be important, however it is a waste of time to watch hours, read 5 papers etc :P

This is such a good post. I can relate because I stopped watching the news. Although I must be honest, I haven't watched TV in nearly a year. Awareness can be good, but to have a positive mindset and the time for self development, news are simply an obstacle. Safety is a big issue to my parents, however it doesn't happen to most of us. News sell fear. Too much fear is not good at all.

Thanks @si93boxing I don't have a TV anymore I just watch Netflix sometimes :) I watch about 15 minutes of news a day just to keep up with what's going on but sometimes I don't watch for weeks in a row. Exactly it is very hard to maintain the positive mindsets when watching the negativity of the news. Good news just hardly sells unfortunately :P

if in my opinion we do not stop to read the news if its hoax or lie. all we need to do is clarify the news. because if people who understand the news lie do not care. that's when the news lie will be very influential on the recipient of news that does not review the contents of the news .. so that the spread of lies universally.

@rezaarmada yes exactly. However my whole point of this post was not to just talk about fake news or real news, but about whether news actually influences your life :) whether you can use it to your benefit, or may as well just ignore it :)

very influential. with news of people can become popular, and with the news also people will be ruined his career, then like I said earlier. we review the news we receive, do not believe it. find out first the truth. do not we spread the word slander.

@rezaarmada but did you actually read the post? Because I'm not talking about people's popularity. I'm talking about if you watch 2 hours of news every day, do you actually have a better life? Do you earn more money? Is your life safer?

yes I read it, but what I want to say about the news today like that, about your question, if we read or watch beriya for 2 hours. we can increase our insight, money and security issues that depend on the profession we live. which is essentially news is very important to us personally and I think we should take the time to read or watch the news. thanks. glad to know you. I wish you success..

Thanks @rezaarmada okay good to know your points of view and adding them in here :) thanks!

yes both friends, hopefully we can be friends who help each other. Nice to meet you. You are a great person in writing.

Yes absolutely!

So true.
I tend to avoid news. This is an inbuilt mechanism I guess.

You mean built in mechanism to avoid it? :)

Yeah!
But built-in is more like done on purpose or added afterwards. But inbuilt seems more appropriate here because it is an inherent attribute of mine.
Great though to have a conversation about words.
Cheers!

Ah okay I get what you mean! :) I didn't know that :)
