Help curb plagiarism, take another look before you upvote
Some of us may have been lured by great and amazing photos on different blogs. Amazing view of a tourist spot that you've never been to, yummy presentation of sumptuous foods you haven't tried yet, beautiful bouquet of lovely flowers that you can almost smell the scent on the photos, memorable catch of the sunset golden hour. Name it, we have them on social media. Steemit is not spared from these. When that happens our first instinct is to like or upvote the blog because, again, it is amazing.
I myself have been into this case especially with travel photos. I love travelling and seeing new places thus I enjoy reading through travel blogs. However through that reading that I noticed some things that triggers questions. When someone talks about something, there has to be a relationship between the topic and the author. Otherwise, the author is just relaying something that was taken somewhere else and rephrased or paraphrased. That led me to make few searches at least for photos.
To check if a photo is an original post on Steemit or has duplicates on the internet, use the image search of Google. This only works on Google Chrome browser but it is still a great tool for many. On your Google Chrome browser, right-click on the image to bring up the drop down menu. If you are on your mobile phone, make a long press on the image. This is the counterpart of right-click on desktop setting but will also pull the drop-down menu. From the drop-down menu, click on "Search Google for image."
Results will show if there are exactly the same photos on the internet. Here is a sample result.
Some photos may be royalty free and can be used on other posts but the source should still be clearly stated on the post.
