I'm sure we all know about the half hour worldwide 'outage' of you tube earlier this week.

Apparently a worldwide outage means it was done with the intention of taking it offline.

Discussion about it sprang up immediately.
'Black hats'? 'White hats?' What was it all about....?

I don't know, and neither does anyone else for sure.
What I DO know, is the differences that I have seen on you tube since it happened.

1/ Random you tube video suggestions on my feed. Random in a way I have never seen before.

2/ ALL 'live chats records' are now being taken down when looking back at the you tube presentations. They are not available. This never happened before with you tubes I have been watching.

3/ LIVE moderators on live chats that seem to be deleting comments as and when 'they' feel like it..As well as deleting comments as they decide, on you tube channels

4/ Shadow banning of you tube presentations. (see underneath links). You tube are now deciding what video's go onto the playlists of content creators.
The Sargon of Akkad example I give here, shows just how draconian this is becoming.

oh, and here is the link to the video that was shadow banned. (it would be rude not to insert the link here, wouldn't it?)

(The link works...don't be fooled by the image - press > !)

Sort:

But of course, ThemTube was created for this purpose.

They underbid and outsold all other video hosting services.
Further, they had the real advertisers behind them.

How could a company like this lose money for so long?
Why? To keep anything else from competing.

So, they could have control.
But open displays of power make people feel outrage... that must be avoided, so they just shaddowban and make people's channels disappear, and then come back (sorta)

The In-Q-Tel / Alphabet plan to coral internet users in one place then centrally control their access to information rolls on. IPFS (or similar) is our only hope now. Centralised Internet freedom was a nice idea but it's finished. Resteemed.

Soon (relatively speaking) internet 3.0 will come along.
and it will be peer-to-peer with no middle men.
I call it the interconnects.

'Black hats'? 'White hats?'
I heard orange is the new black.
