I can understand the rebelling against Christianity, especially Catholic, because their rhetoric is self contradictory and is obviously a control system. However, just throwing out the bible and God is pretty suicidal as a society.
Society is based on the myths that we tell, that we agree upon.
Where, they are not just stories, but ways to pass on wisdom and be able to dialog about them.
And giving up God is in a very real sense, giving up the larger part of you. You go from a world where you have a divine connection, to a world where you are just alone. When you feel alone, you start to feel nihilistic. There is nothing that matters, there is nothing that is important. There is no need for tomorrow. (so, just press the button Mr. Chump)
Due to their nature as myths they are dangerous to use as way for passing on knowledge. Hence why society would in fact be better off just throwing them out.
