A mass shooting at Christmas...an unsolved mystery to this day....

This happened over 20 years ago, and was never reported in the media, (as far as I am aware).
These are the facts, as I know them.

This is a 100% true event.

During the 14 days leading up to the 25th of December, there were over 150 fatalities.(confirmed).
The precise number can't be verified due to lack of information.
The estimated number of total fatalities appears to be well over 200.

The killer acted on his own, but with support from family members, who were not only aware of the perpetrators actions, but actively encouraged him to execute his plans.

During this time, they helped him. Not directly, but with material support.
Food and drink were regularly dropped at his place where he chose to to kill.

The times of these shootings took place between the hours of 7.00 pm to 1:30 am., each evening.
The perpetrator did not stay in the same place, but moved from one location to another.
Asked later about his motives for doing this, it was not to avoid detection but merely 'To find the optimum killing zone.'

He used a single shot weapon throughout this period, mounted with telescopic sights.

It was a small caliber weapon. He chose this for accuracy, rather than stopping power.

He was quite adamant, upon questioning, about his motives for using such a weapon- That accuracy was tantamount, and that he was purist. A marksmen.

Why he chose this weapon of slaughter, rather than other, more lethal weapons ?- He simply replied “I didn't want to hit a target I never intended to die.”
It is interesting to note that there were many other targets available to shoot, from his position, but specifically chose his targets.
It was not indiscriminate shooting.

So what was this killers modus operandi?

He would wait - sometime for hours at a time, in a prone position, waiting for his intended victims to walk through a gap - in a wall – one that he had been previously staked out.
He had evaluated the best place to zero in on in the most busy pedestrian thoroughfare, for maximum targets.

He by no means only zeroed in on this very precise area. He was also an opportunistic shooter, and would shoot at other targets, if they presented themselves, that were on the move or in the vicinity.
One of his favorite places to open fire on, was where several victims were settling down to eat, at one of their favorite eateries - 'the watering hole'.

It has been estimated over 30 targets were found this way, shot as they were in the very act of eating.
Exact figures cannot be determined, due to many wounded victims fleeing the area, and never seen again.
Whether they died, or not, is purely conjecture.
The killer, when asked about these targets, simply said, with a knowing smile, “They are dead, don’t worry. All my shots are fatal.”
Fatalities dramatically reduced over time.

On the first night of the shootings, 55 victims were confirmed. (many more fleeing the area, whose outcome is unknown).

On the second and third night this night of this killing spree, 23, and 18 dead were confirmed, respectively. Reported dead. (every night of this massacre, there were unconfirmed fatalities).

The next eleven days of terror, for those living in the area, saw relatively few deaths (confirmed), and came to 55, in total.
There was nothing close to the number of deaths, per night, resembling those first three days.

It is noted after the first three days, only those brave, or foolhardy enough, to walk out in the open, were shot at.

There were no deaths occurring at all, at the places of refreshment. 'The watering hole', as it became known.
(The place where mass carnage had taken place, previously).

When asked why the change in target choice, the shooter said “They were too scared to go out and eat, I think, so no targets. The curious still came from that gap in the wall though. The fools.”

It is estimated that the shooter fired over 350 times, to claim the number of victims that he did.
When asked why he stopped, He shrugged, smiled, and said, “There just didn't seem any point to it any more.”

Why was this never reported in the media?
Why did the killer not serve any time in prison?
What was the motive?
