Lanterns!

in #blog6 years ago

Yesterday was 24th of September which is also known as the Mid-Autumn Festival or the Mooncake Festival, and I'm indeed pretty lucky to be right at home during this long semester break! Last year during this festival I was stuck at school so it was quite a lonely one, but this time I get to stick with my family members and enjoy mooncakes together. These delicacies are only around once a year so of course it is not really acceptable for me to miss out on them, but they are so sweet and somehow unhealthy to be eaten in massive amounts…ah, whatever, it’s only for a month, right?

My family does things slightly traditionally when it comes to these festivals, so we have reunions and praying activities as well as inviting some friends around. There’s also a bunch of traditional paper-made lanterns in my home, so we lit those candles and hung them up around the house. This is also the only chance we get to take them out from the drawers, pat the dust off them and let them serve their purpose.

These traditional lanterns have a unique charm that most plastic-made lanterns cannot replicate, it’s just a unique feeling – something that feels beautiful, fragile, but you are willing to keep and take care of it forever because it holds the warmth and memories that cannot be replaced by whatever.

Yeah, looking at the children playing with candles, lighting them up and watching them like gems…

Nostalgic.

Indeed, it’s always the best to enjoy festivals with family members, otherwise how would you make it a festival? Too bad the moon isn’t showing up yesterday night, but it doesn’t really matter that much, it was still fun. I’m grateful that the rain held itself from pouring down too, it initially looked like raining but soon it stopped and the downpour happened later at midnight.

Now…let me have another mooncake. nom see you next time!
