Hello steemers, this the part2 of my daily science trivia more about the animals kingdom, lets talk about howw do the ehales breathe? Whales take in air more frequently than land mammals, and they can hold their breathe for extraordinarily long period during thier dives. Although thier lungs capacity is no greater than that of land mammals of equivalent size, whales take deeper breathes and extract more oxygen from the air they breathe, unlike the seal, which exhales before diving, a whales lungs are still partially inflated. the whales nostrils are modefied to fowm a blowhole at the top of the head . the skin emmidiately sorrounding the blowhhole has many specialized nerve ending, which are very sensitive to the blowhole is above the surface, the blowhole is closed when the animal is submerged, when a whale surfaces and exhales , a spout of water or blow can be seen.
FACT FILE
Baleen whales have 2 blowholes in the top of thier heads, whilst the ttoth whales only have single one, the BLOW is caused by condensationfrom the warm, moisst of the air that is exhaled, not form sea water trapped in the blowhole as was once believe..
