I survived a (((7.9))) EARTHQUAKE in Nepal

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

THE SCARIEST DAY OF MY LIFE!!

Me and my 2 Triplet brothers just woke up on the fifth floor of our hotel when the Nepal earthquake of 2015 struck, also called Gorkha earthquake struck near the city of Kathmandu in central Nepal on April 25, 2015. About 9,000 people were killed, many thousands more were injured, and more than 600,000 structures in Kathmandu and other nearby towns were either damaged or destroyed.

As usual we where calling our mother on skype, when we where interrupted my a quake followed by a sound i will never forget, everything was rattling, the windows the bricks in the walls, the floor felt like it was made of gel and we where on the top floor of this old building!
The electricity was cut as a cloud of white dust swept true the air, the last thing our mother heard on the other side was,
-OoooHHh!! shit its an eathquake followed by that nasty sound.

We left the room in our underwear, thinking we are going to die!
We had been in a few quakes before but nothing like this. Walking down the spiral staircase was a challenge as it was rocking back and forth like it wasn't attached to the walls. Five floors down felt like an eternity. Me and my brother Pelle where the first to exit the building, my third brother was still inside. I run inside the smoke filled hotel, a few stairs up he was laying on the stairs. I grabbed his arm and dragged him down the stairs while the walls where cracking all around us.
In a distance we could hear houses falling and people screaming in shock and fear.

The ground where settling but under our feet we could feel the ground "boiling"
Crazy how helpless we are against the force of nature, especially in Katmandu.
This old maze like city full of ruins, where now a very dangerous place to be.
Huge boulders from the broken buildings where covering the dirt road. Some houses where split in the middle, we could look strait in to them, peoples homes where completely destroyed and 9000 people lost their life that day.
We saw things we wish we never saw, blood and body parts sticking out from a pile of rubble, hundreds of people where helping out digging as deep as they could.

Then the second quake hit! We had to get out of the crumbling city. A military police where pointing a crowd of confused people to an open aria a few blocks away! Hundreds of people had gathered on this "safe" spot. At night we could still feel the after quakes rumbling beneath the ground, every time that happened some one where screaming out in panic.

Day 2
We didn't sleep at all. It was a cold night, our small fire went out and the rumors of another quake started to spread around the camp. The sun was on it's way up, we decided to see if we could collect our stuff from our hotel. The streets where completely empty and everything was closed including our hotel.

On our way back to camp we passed the hotel we always stay at when living in Katmandu (hotel budget in) 2 moths prior the earthquake we stayed there for 2 months.
Days before the quake we came back from beautiful Pokhara tryed to get a room in Hotel Budget In, but they where fully booked that day so we checked in to the hotel next to it.
Now the 7 floor high building was completely flat 117 people died in there.
Now the hotel is known as "the hotel of death"

We where lucky to survive.
Spent 5 days sleeping outside in the hot days and cold nights with out food, money, very limited water and no electricity.
We tried to Get help from the Swedish embassy but where rejected. While other countries sent their people home, we where stuck at an airport for days.
