How Much Powerful UNITY Can Be? - Berlin Wall
When we finally found our host-family, left our luggage and bought train tickets, we were ready to start exploring. The main parts of the city were crowded with local people who were passionately cheering for this holiday. Our excitement was increasing every hour. I have never witnessed such a scene before because there are not many citizens in my town where I grew up, nor in the towns around it.
The main part of our learning during the trip was from historical museums of Berlin, which were slowly changing our attitude as we learned more about war, suffering, and unity. The challenge for many Eastside Germans was to cross the wall or dig under it to run away from the war and cruel soldiers. Thousands of them who could not overcome that challenge were killed and only a small number of them found a better future across the wall. The many incidents that happened on the Eastside encouraged over half of million people to gather and force the government to give the order to open the gate which had been a barrier for twenty years. People from the Westside welcomed them with a lot of beautiful flowers and delicious champagne. Photos that showed this scenes of human happiness suddenly woke up our emotions and we realized what amazing things unity can do.
What would you do if you were separated from those you love? I am pretty sure that many of us would do anything to be together with them again. Unity has the power to connect us all and destroy any kind of barriers. This reminded me of a saying by one of the most famous Latin writers: ‘’Where there is unity, there will always be power.’’ Publilius Syrus gave us this quote to remember it and thus make our world a better place to live in.
