Apple’s Cambridge office is located at 30 Station Road, directly across from Microsoft Research Cambridge. It is a seven-story R&D facility spanning approximately 79,000 square feet, with a capacity for up to 900 employees. However, this figure represents the building's maximum capacity rather than Apple's current headcount in Cambridge. Completed in 2022, the building became Apple's new home after the company relocated from its smaller offices at 90 Hills Road—a move that underscores its plans to continue expanding its R&D teams in the area.

Apple’s establishment of an R&D presence in Cambridge is closely linked to the local artificial intelligence industry. In 2015, Apple acquired VocalIQ, a speech AI startup with roots at the University of Cambridge. Specializing in natural conversation and voice interaction technologies, the VocalIQ team remained in Cambridge post-acquisition, forming the core of Apple's early R&D operations there; consequently, the site was frequently referred to by outsiders as Apple's "Siri R&D lab."

However, the scope of work at Apple’s Cambridge office has clearly expanded well beyond Siri. Recent job listings indicate that the Cambridge team is engaged in areas such as speech, vision, and audio machine learning; Apple Intelligence and Siri evaluation; fundamental machine learning research; health AI; camera and image algorithms; and CPU design verification and platform architecture. In short, the site has evolved into a key hub for Apple’s AI, machine learning, and chip R&D operations in the UK.
