Does success make crimes unimportant?

Well a friend of mine, is a huge wrestling fan. She is a big fan of a particular wrestler named Chris Benoit.

If you don't know who he is, he is regarded as one of the top 10 best wrestlers of all time. Won multiple titles, and was supposed to win his 3rd prior to his death.

In 2007, he killed both his wife, and his son, before hanging himself two days later. People cite brain damage as his reason for it.

Despite what he did, people still talk about him in high praise and fans often say "forget what he did, he was great wrestler, let's remember that!".

I think personally, that is complete bullshit. However it seems to be a recurring theme. If someone is famous and everyone loves them, and they commit a crime, it gets overlooked.

Elvis for example, pedophile. However everyone says "Oh he was in love with her, it was true love!". She was 14, he was in his twenties.

So I ask you, why do you think humans ignore crimes if the person that did it is famous?
