William Walker Atkinson wrote a ton of material around the turn of the 19th century. One of his most prominent works that has been referenced many times in the last 100 years was The Kybalion, originally published under the pen name "The Three Initiates". He has many other interesting works contemplating thought, energy, influence, and desire. I cherry picked a few of my favorite quotes.
“If you want to use your full amount of steam, you must close your valves and direct your power of generating mental steam toward one end. Center your mind on one purpose, one plan, one transaction.”
A great quote on focusing your mental powers. The man who scatters himself among many goals often excels at none. If you wake up each morning and focus your mental powers to one end, you're much more likely to follow that train of thought to completion.
“That which is the Real Self of Man is the Divine Spark sent forth from the Sacred Flame.”
Our real selves are often clouded by what should and shouldn't be. Outside influences and expectations often cover our true passions. What would you be doing if you could do anything?

Be not half-hearted in your demands and desires – claim and demand the WHOLE THING, and feel confident that it will work out into material objectivity and reality. Think of it, dream of it, and always LONG for it – you must learn to want it the worst way – learn to "want it hard enough. Do not be flimsy in your desires, once a decision is made, desire it to completion.

Make sure you're looking the right way. This is the basis of the law of attraction, and why positive people tend to live positive lives.
“Anything that is right is possible. That which is necessary will inevitably take place. If something is right it is your duty to do it, though the whole world thinks it to be wrong.”
Do not let others sway you from what you know to be right. Follow your heart and be yourself.
I first discovered William Walker Atkinson through The Kybalion. Later I discovered some of his other works such as Mystic Christianity, Science of Breath, and Yogi Philosophy. He has been a major entry point for me in the study of the esoteric and comparing it to my own lived experiences.
