Siege of Minas-Tirith - Hildebrandt brothers Tolkien second calendar, my stories about illustrators:)

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

The next illustration in the second Tolkien calendar by Hildebrandt brothers is the Siege of Minas-Tirith:

I really love when fire is involved:) All the reflections on armour look so great - this game of light. This illustration is much bigger then the others in the calendar, and consists a lot of tiny fetails.

Here we have an awesome opportunity to witness a truthly interesting process of creating photo references. As always, nearly the whole family of the artists was involved:

Armor was created with hand tools. As usual, a lot of towels and bath bobes took part in art creating process:)

This illustration had a couple of versions. In the beginning the artists couldn't agree about the composition and aboy the best point of view. Even about the plot. But it gives us opportunity o see more preparation sketchdrawings, so everything that happens containes good:)

All these sketches on old yellow paper are pricesess as for me. It's one of the most inspiring things in the world:)

Thank you for watching:)

Love, Inber

Again another great post of your process.

Omg... And again - read at least the title, please, you're the second one today with this:). It's said there that the illustrations are by Hildebrandt brothers. If the art is mine - it's also said in the title.

Oh im sorry, i have a big migraine and im working in automatic, I think I skipped the tytle, Im so sorry, I tend to read all the posts...

No problem:)

Beautiful - love the old school fantasy art!

:) Me too

That's really interesting. People don't always realized that there were real models used for illustrations. I always enjoy looking up storyboard art for animated movies because some sources show the models used for the drawings.

So true:)
