Saruman in the Orthanc - Hildebrandt brothers Tolkien calendar, my stories about illustrators:)

Today I continue the story about Hildebrandt brothers Tolkien calendar, and the next illustration in the list is "Saruman in the Orthanc".

Here we have an epic centric composition. By the way, almost like that Osthanc looks in LotR MMORPG, I remember these roads surrounding the tower.

The tower looked different on the first sketchdrawing:

"First I painted a tower with horns seeking a more sinister look. But the editor said that I distorted the description of the author. So I changed the horns into spiers."

Here we also have a different point of view. How awesome this is? I really love looking threw sketches of great works:)

And a pose reference for Saruman. As usual, one of the brothers turned into a wizard:)
