Faramir - Hildebrandt brothers Tolkien second calendar, my stories about illustrators:)
The next illustration in the second Tolkien calendar is Faramir:
It seems to me like it's the illustration with a highest ammount of material persist. We have almost all the photo references that were used to create the picture.
Most times brothers artists posed themselves for the references, sometimes they asked their friends for help. If you remember for Lady Galadriel posed Gred Hildebrandt's wife. For Greg Hildebrandt Junior it looked like magic, like everyone he knew was in touch with magical world. I can imagine that feeling:)
By the way sometimes I also ask my husband to take a photo of me to use as a reference. But I takes pictures of hands in 90% times, and I'm not that good at posing:)
As you remember all the props for photos was created from improvised materials. Bath robes for cloaks, cardboard sheaths for swards.
Here we're again lucky to see the final sketchdrawing for the illustration. I think it's one of the best illustrations in the calendar. The heroes look nearly exactly how I imagine them, and the moment of the meeting of Faramir and the hobbits is very tensed:
Thank you for watching:)
Love, Inber
