Will there ever be economic equality?
Will there ever be economic equality?
Surely many of you have heard that: "1% of the world population has more wealth than the remaining 99%".
There may be some truth in that. But I think the important thing is to distinguish between those who obtained their wealth by serving their neighbor with goods and services of better quality, and those who obtained it belonging to an oligarchy embedded in a corrupt system that puts barriers to anyone who wants to have freedom to jump over those barriers.
Different origins of inequality
We can find two systems: one where the rich are the product of the prebendary businesses, of the "cronyism" that exists between them and the political class, of having the benefits of knowing the "right" people. In that system, inequality will generate discomfort and anger.
The other system is that where inequality is the product of the efficiency of individuals to generate wealth. A system where you can get the fruits according to how you worked towards a goal.
Can we say that there will always be inequality?
I believe that yes, we can never reach the levels of equality, which I think sound utopian, something that some politicians raise in their speeches.
We can advocate for equal opportunities for all individuals, but the results will not be the same, and so we return to the same: INEQUALITY. And so we hear the same political discourses about equality and the distribution of wealth.
Is inequality synonymous with poverty?
No. As simple as "no." It is not necessary that there be inequality so that there is poverty, as poverty is not necessary for there to be inequality. They are concepts that have been linked to each other, concepts that seem to "go hand in hand". But as I said: they are not synonymous, far from it.
Many times we get carried away by the perception of some influential people and we forget that the truth lies in the DATA. That's right, the data. These are the only things that can give a bit of truth between value judgments. And these tell us that humanity has never enjoyed economic well-being and access to goods and services as it can today.
The important thing is to eradicate poverty, not to seek equality by removing some to distribute it to others, making charity with the money of others. That way it is easy to be solidary.
