Smoking 🚬 kills, honestly in England a pack of cigarettes looks horrible

in #blog7 years ago

We I take my pack of cigarettes out to smoke a cigarette
I instantly want to throw up image
Why have this pictures on a pack of cigarettes
I understand the risk of smoking
People have been smoking for decades,
Smoking 🚬 is bad I know

More should be done in school to teach children not to smoke

Not to put horrific pictures on a pack of cigarettes

Steem on!

Why not just outlaw tobacco products! I agree smoking is a major health issue but the bigger issue is that governments have become addicted to the tax revenue they generate, so can't ban them!
No one complains when taxation on tobacco products goes up every year because we are told it's to discourage smoking!
It will be interesting to see how vaping develops and what tax treatment it ends up with!

This is a step in the wrong direction though, isn't it? We've seen prohibition with Alcohol and Marijuana, in both cases it was a disaster...

I don't know what the perfect answer is, maybe taxes are the right way, I think probably just education seems to be doing the trick.

Education should be first I believe

Very true
Thank you

A pack of cigarettes here I buy it with £8 Pall mall
Taxes are making The price skyrocket in UK
A pack of Malborough is£10
Now depending where you buy from you can pay more in central London for it

I agree, everyone is constantly talking about the rights of non-smokers being violated, and there is a current ongoing trend to blame smokers basically for all life sins.

Smokers are also people. Yes, their habit is unhealthy. Yes, it is unhealthy to breathe in smoke from someone's cigarette. But come on, there are much unhealthier things in life. Eating KFC attributes to the creation of blood clots, sitting 8 hours in the office in front of the computer destroys blood vessels in one's legs. But we don't put such horrific pictures on KFC buckets and office tables.

I myself am a non-smoker. But I do feel that the rights of smokers are being violated by the current trend in the society.

Thank you for your support

Thank you for your view on the issue, it was a pleasure to read.

Those look TERRIBLE. It's funny, a classic tobacco brand here in Lebanon did a packaging makeover and became the best selling brand among competitors. I encourage that kind of packaging because it communicates the reality as opposed to the hype.

Well that is what they should do but instead here they show you what is the worst
Thank you

Outlawing tobacco will cause the same, greater issues that come from Drug prohibition as well.

There will always be a demand for Tobacco, so there will always be a supply.

Only the demand will be satiated by black markets, untaxed, unregulated, irresponsibly distributed by suppliers who build their supply chain infrastructure around the illicit status of the product they are selling.

It maximises the harm done, profits made by making something like tobacco illegal .

Australia has had these plain packaging with the entire pack showing the graphic images for a few years now. They are great, smoking rates are down, they eliminate brand associations people have to the aesthetics of the old packs. You can't display them in a retail outlet, always behind closed cupboards or under counter.

The economics work something like this.

Raise taxes on tobacco, becomes unaffordable for some, people stop.
Government gets less tax from declining sales, raises tax again to maintain same amount of tax from less smokers, becomes unaffordable to more people.
Less people smoking, less cost to health care and treatment. The numbers work in the governments favour, ultimately saving more in health care costs than they would receive by collecting tax on tobacco sales from the people who quit because of a combination of raising taxes, plain packaging, graphic imagery and further regulated restrictions, but not prohibition of it.

Thank you very much for your indept comment
