The Underestimated Power Of Compound Effect

in #blog8 years ago (edited)

Compound effect is an ancient wisdom in finance, skill acquisition, training and so on. Yet many are still not taking advantage of. It is a long term thinking, and as human like to live as if there is no tomorrow. Using compound effect to full effect has not been giving enough attentions in our activities.

A lot of us without thinking much will go a reward of $5000 every month over $100 with a compound increase of 10% weekly. I am not in the mood for some mathematics. But working it out on paper or your calculator, $100 with a compound increase of 10% will beat a steady $5000 monthly within 6 months and it will continue to grow exponentially until you pull a plug on it.
Yes, that is a simple illustration of the power of compound effect.

To generalise that and put in another words, a small but smart decisions and actions taken consistently towards the achievement of your goal will eventually result in not only the obtaining your goal but also lead to incredible result that will make you stand out and proud. A good thing about compound effect is it most time will not put pressure on you, all that is required is a small, definite steps taken consistently.

The reason why a lot are not utilizing the power of this compound effect is that the results are not immediate. We live in a world where we now want everything instantly. We now want fast food, instant heat, instant download, same day shipping. Immediately or instantly has therefore become a great marketing word.

Why wait for few months when you can have some slices now?

This is where our core values come to play. Your core value is your guiding principle, your fundamental beliefs that you work with no matter what. It guides your path, your daily actions or inactions towards the attainment of your set goals. It is therefore to always check if your decisions or actions are in alignment with your core values every time. It is a great way to know if you are taking the right steps or not. That you are becoming the man or woman you set out to be.

To discover or establish your core value, you sometimes have to look at people you respect that have achieved what you set out to achieve in your field and use the key attributes that helped them succeed as your own guiding principles.

One thing we should be weary of is the urge to see instant results even on Steemit. Okay, the rewards are not encouraging. But if one of your core values is learning and becoming a better writer, then you will not turn to 'shit' posting. Every post you make is moving you towards achieving your goals of learning and becoming a better writer. There are other values you can derived from steemit aside the rewards, make good use of them. You need to be patient and focus on the compound gain and effect, which is always long-term, gives you momentum, helps you build capacity and much much (twice for emphasize) more rewarding than immediate gain.

Very true! We do live in a world where most folks seek instant gratification- in almost every aspect of their lives. Something I've done to help me with this is turn off notifications. I don't need to be interrupted to know that I received an email, share, like, message, etc. I think that this instant gratification issue is directly related to the 'need' to be so 'connected.' It'd odd that the more notifications and alters we have with someone 'connecting' with us actually interrupts the other things we might be doing in real life. This simple act can help rewire the brain, and reset our dopamine response, and with consistency/habit change help with those who struggle with wanting everything now!

Yes, technology has contributed a great deal to this out habit of wanting everything now. Like you did a great way to deal is to learn to turn some things off.

Thank you for sharing your insights.

Einstein repeatedly stated that time is an illusion. Time does not exist.
For those of you who are confused by this term or deny it, it is clear that you have not understood the essence of time.
Humans often forget that time is only a unit to show the duration of a process.
Just like the meter to measure the length of a good. Cutting out all the rulers in the world does not make the measured item shorter.
Stopping all hours in this world does not make all processes stop.
Time is simply a unit concept as a measure. Therefore reversing time is not the same as reversing the process.
This is why the concept of time travel / time machine will never be possible.
If you still deny that time is impossible stop try to answer the very simple question: What will happen if time stops? Most will reply: everything stops moving. Clock stopped. People become like a statue, and so forth. If you can answer this question, try answering the second question.
If you can make time stop, then how long will you stop the time? If you answer it in units of time, then you are obviously stuck in a contradiction.
Say you answer 1 hour, then you are directly saying that the time runs for 1 hour when the time stops before then run again.
We must understand that time differs from process. When you answer the first question that "all stop moving" you forget that the stop is "process" not time. Time alone can not stop.
What are the implications? Beyond that there is eternity.
The process always continues without beginning and end.
