Areas of your life you must set higher standards to have a quality life.

You must have come across the phrase "raise your standard" many times it has become a cliché. Some words tend to lose their meaning or effect on people when used a lot of time, i think the phrase above is one of them. Of course, we can all acknowledge that whatever level we are at the moment we can definitely surpass that. As the saying goes...

The largest room in the world is the room for improvement.

There are some areas of our lives in we know deep down we can and should be improving on. Getting to the next level in these area will change our whole existence for the better drastically. It is amazing how people neglect these areas that to a very large extent determine how fulfilled their lives will be. So below are the five of those areas of your live you need to set a high standard and under no circumstances settle for less.


Improved HEALTH

The first and the most important area of your life you need to set a high standard and get the best of is your health. If you want to achieve your goals and live a happy life, it is non negotiable - no compromise here.

Most people set lot of goals in different areas at the beginning of every year or month but they neglect the most important thing they need to achieve those goals - good health. When you are healthy you definitely have these enormous energy to achieve whatever. Imagine waking up in the morning feeling all tired and stressed out, you already know it will be a hell of a day and will likely not achieve much during the day. Unlike waking up feeling refreshed with a burst of energy ready to take on whatever. Good health gives you positive energy which will in turn increase your productivity. You definitely need to raise your standard on things that will keep you energized. Get enough sleep, eat the right kind of food at the right time, exercise your body regularly, drink enough water everyday, stay away from substances that can affect your health negatively and so on.

Keep your focus

Like i said in this post about how TV is preventing people from been as productive as they should. TV is such a good (or is it bad now?) time waster, you can spend hours in front of it and before you know what hits you. The day is gone and if you don't check it your life is gone. But TV is not the only time waster. It is very easy this days to lose focus and waste a lot of hours on non productive things. You need to be mindful at most times to what exactly you should be doing.

With multitasking comes loss of focus and attention. You trying to get a job done and before you know there is a notification about something interesting that someone posted on Facebook or Instagram, and off you go to another page or app. To be more productivity you need to set yourself a new high standard in keeping your focus at most times. Something like 'I am getting this job done within this particular time and nothing will distract me or change that except emergency'. That is one sure way to get as many important things as possible done. And believe me there will be time left to check those 'interesting' post on social media and others.


Be more daring...be bold

You will most probably not be where you are or achieve most of these things you have achieved if you have not been bold enough to go for your dreams. Like you know already good things are not handed to anybody on a platter of gold.

People that got to the peak are mostly those that have the courage to keep getting up and moving towards their goals after series of falling, setbacks and disappointments. A lot good things are not handed to us after the first series of trying, i guess they are reserved for those with the aggression, that boldness to keep coming back after failing. It is time you set your that high standard of boldness to go after things others are scared to even dream of, to follow your dream setback after setback. At the end of the day, this is one of the things that will differentiate an achiever from a mediocre.

Have fun

How many times have you said "Life is so short"? But do you really take time to enjoy it. It is important to find a way to enjoy whatever it is you are doing. It is not cool to life live a life of routine motion. Many people walk around like they are carrying a shitload of the world's problem. We all have one problem or the other we are battling with. But the good news is it has not killed you yet. So learn to enjoy your life before it kills you and probably won't. You can have fun doing anything if you are ready to spice it up.

Like @dumar022 will say, why so serious? Set a new high standard of seeing or bringing a funny side to situations. Don't take yourself so serious all the time, play a prank, make and take jokes. This will improve the quality of your relationships and your life considerably.


Be good to people.

Even a psychopath knows the meaning and consequence of been good to other people. We all have that voice that keep telling us to do good but sadly most people choose to ignore it. We live in a world where everyone is minding his/her own business and don't give a fuck about the next man. It is not just about feeling empathy or praying for people suffering like a lot do but saying, showing or demonstrating act of kindness and love.

And it does not have be 'save the world' kind of thing, little acts of kindness matter a lot. Kindness can be putting yourself in other people's shoes, been patient with them, respecting them and their opinion even if you don't agree with them, trying to make other see the brighter side despite what they are going through, giving up little comfort for someone that needs it most and so on. These are things we definitely set an high standard...keep getting better and better at it. This is the message the major world religions are preaching but which most followers are not doing...the message is "Love your neighbor". Apart from the law of karma, these things make you feel good about yourself and your life. It greatly improve quality of life in many ways.

Conclusion

To reach the peak, become a better man and live a better life, the standards listed up there are important. You need to make a decision to work on them immediately. It is not about reading, knowing or be determined to do them but you need to start doing them immediately. The results are not immediate but you definitely will notice some changes in your well being, mood, motivation, relationships and quality of your life.
