RE: Symphony Splash 2018 ~ Don't Miss The Cannon Fire!
Looks like a really fun evening @keithboone. If we were there I suspect we'd be in the canoes although not if we had to sit there from 6.00 a.m. 😱
I'm surprised you were able to get so close to the cannons.
I like where you ended the evening and with a pretty sunset. 😊
I think if you had a canoe or kayak (or paddle board!) you could paddle right up there any time and just squeeze your way into the little fleet. As for the 6 AM chairs - check this out: you stake out your spot by placing your chairs somewhere in the roped off areas, and then you can go home for 12 hours. The chairs will be there, untouched, when you show up for the concert.
That kind of thing wouldn't work in a big city, but it does here. Those cannons are loud! They're firing blanks, of course, so they let you get exactly this close. I was standing right at the rope barrier for two hours so that nobody could block my shot. In the 2016 shot, lower left, a serviceman ducked under the rope in front of me at the last second.
It's like that in the parks for the New Year's Eve Fireworks in Sydney @keithboone. I couldn't imagine that happening in London!
That explains it then. That's dedication. 😁
