Rappocini, Colorful Hallway in Makassar

in #blog6 years ago

I have always believed that the development of a good city certainly did not leave the traditional villages. Kampung is a native residential system of Indonesia and makes a distinctive community inside, communal, intimate and warm. As in Makassar, many villages in the middle of the city. Usually it is not called kampong but is called aisle, because these villages are elongated shape spreading to the center of the kampung, say also the hallway as the matching alley.

One of the villages that is now quite interesting in Makassar is Rapoccini. Originally Rappocini was a subdistrict, a fairly large area in the middle of town. There are 10 sub-districts in this kecamatan and the center of this subdistrict is the same named kelurahan, Rapoccini.

Jalan Rappocini Raya became the main road in Rappocini and this way I can head to the village inside Rappocini. The easiest access is through Lorong 3 or Lorong 5 whose gate is on the edge of Jalan Rappocini Raya.

Once into the hallway Rappocini was really shady atmosphere, a lot of tall trees in the hall, this makes the atmosphere in the village cool, not like the streets of Makassar is really dry heat. The aisle of Rappocini was not as narrow as my shadow, at first I thought the alley was dark and narrow like the villages in Jakarta, the aisle of Rappocini was wide and could fit a car, still quite relieved to be called aisle.

On either side of the hall the atmosphere is bright and cheerful. The walls of the hallways are colorful, some are yellow, some are red, some are pink. All colors mix and certainly add to the splendor of the village, without the color of course this village will be monotonous and not this nuance.

The colorful hallways of Rappocini do not just appear. The initiative dates back to 2016 since Astra entered this village and initiated Rappocini as part of Astra Kampung Berseri. Changing a village can not necessarily, should slowly. Astra played a role in Rappocini's transformation.

There used to be an idiom that Rappocini was a hard area in Makassar. Some consider Rappocini a creepy area, many criminal acts and so on. The idiom is what it wants to change, Kampung Berser Astra wants to change the negative assumption about Rappocini alleys into something positive.

Astra then through its CSR program does a lot of things for Rappocini. One of the first things to change is the habit of citizens to manage waste. It deals with a healthy lifestyle at Rappocini. People initially often throw garbage anywhere, in the corners of the village, on the river, on empty land. Considering that it can cause disease seeds, the program of Kampung Bersama Astra then initiated Bank Trash in Rappocini.

Communities are slowly changing. Initially, customers of Bank Trash slightly increased and more and now has reached hundreds of customers. Astra also builds Bank Trash building with drop point point to processing and also educate its managers. Now Rappocini is practically clean and tidy, the waste is well managed and the environment is healthier.

Astra also provides health education through environmental health instructors. Routinely there is new education and learning for the counselor who later by the extension workers will be disseminated to the residents on a regular basis. As time goes by, environmental health in Rappocini also increases along with cleanliness and free of waste as well as increasing awareness of citizens.

On the educational side, Astra encourages the construction of playgroups for Rappocini children. There is a building classroom playing in the corner of the hall with amenities developed by Astra. The Rappocini children are free to play and learn in this place, the management is done by the Rappocini people.

Another thing that is done is the development of MSMEs in Rappocini. It turns out that Rappocini residents previously had many small businesses but not yet worked out optimally both in terms of production and marketing.

Assistance to Kampung Berseri Astra then focuses on two things, the residents are fostered by improving the production process, assisted membranding with good packaging, are also given more effective ways of marketing. Upon such assistance, some MSMEs in Rappocini then do marketing and experience an increase in turnover.

Once all is done, the physical development of Rappocini is then done. Some infrastructure facilities repaired, as well as painting in homes to be colorful.

This is done by adapting the previously colored hometown in various regions. The colors of Rappocini are expected to become a new tourist attraction in Makassar, so people who previously jeri with Rappocini can come and visit Rappocini.

A year later after Rappocini entered the Astra Berseri Village which became a series of One Indonesia program, Astra then held an event in the center of the village. Events in the form of music performances, free medication, and exhibition of UMKM products are intended to show that the transformation process in Rappocini is successful. In the event that was attended by the Mayor and Vice Mayor of Makassar, the residents also happy together, Rappocini aisle can now become more beautiful.

Rappocini is a testament to how the transformation of an area can go both ways with the support of corporations and the willingness of citizens. This shows that for a positive thing nothing is impossible, as long as it is consistent and all components of the community participate.

That's the result of my journey and research for the colorful street rappocini, hopefully this article useful for all of us ..
