Yes. pecan burns with a vast amount of smoke per volume of wood. The smell and taste is greatly enhanced. Kind of like having a cheap bourbon and adding a glass of imported Coca Cola from Mexico made with the pure cane sugar is how the pecan helps the flavor when burned with oak. Makes for a "smoother " taste.
