What may lead to Mass adoption on Steemit

This year has reached the peak of mainstream 'oppression' to contradictory opinions, characterised by massive censorships, revelations of spying and data breaches including selling of user data, etcetera.

Why then have we not seen a mass movement from mainstream platforms to alternative News outlets? At first I assumed that it was a lack of willpower by the masses to act against the establishment, but the more I observe it has become quite clear that information also plays a major role.

The media revolution can only begin if people actually know about it, and the options at their disposal. I genuinely believe that there will be a mass embrace with more information Put to the fore.

This year will be considered a wasted one if there are no appreciable gains in the rise of alternative platforms, whether or not the mainstream establishment manage to silent dissent on their platforms.

I badly want Steemit to take center stage among alternative platforms, but not just as a safe Haven for alternative Media. A mass defection into the steem blockchain could get the mainstream crowd interested and make this place one of the true communities where free speech thrives.

If the revolution is to happen, we hope it happens fast, because the odds are strongly in our favour at this point in time.

Sort:

Most people are still not seeing the danger in the increasing amount of censorship on the social media sites, even though it is accelerating and expanding on its reach.

Without blockchain technology, it appears that there will only be mainstream (government approved) opinions allowed on the internet.

This is a very scary development indeed.

Exactly, people don't get that it goes beyond politics or party support, and censorship affects us all. I really hope the revolution we envisage will happen soonest

I believe that one of the main obstacles to the final death of centralized media owned by those who believe we are their cattle is due to a herd mentality. Fakebook is a good example of this. I cut the cord from them some time back, and despite all the grumbling I hear from relatives and peers they can't cut that cord. They want the connection that Fakebook offers, they claim. As though before Fakebook we were all severed or something.

You see the mentality with most things against what the farmers approve.

  • Vaccinations

  • Home schooling

  • Political party structures

  • The proclamations that there are more than two genders and that it is a fluid situation despite the obvious biology.

This list could go on, but the final nail about the herd mentality is the way those in power treat us with disdain and you will see so many defend it as though it is their right to treat us in such a way.

Steem it is not without it's problems, I think anyone who uses it regularly knows this. If It blew up to a more mainstream audience and if It could handle that influx of people the impact could be huge. It's more of content creator based platform, that is the best option for people right now... It saddens me when I tell people about it, get them all hyped and then they never act upon it.

So bold and clean.

Your comment made no sense but I'll upvote you anyways. If you're here to stay you need all the help you can get

Hm, this revolution doesnt happen itself.
We make it, with our choices... if we make our choices fast, then its come fast.

Until we search on the youtube, share stuffs on facebook, or check the twitter, this "revolution" just still stuck.

They make censorship, because they can. We let them.

The peak of mainstream oppression of alternative voices actually happened awhile ago. People just didn't notice. This year is interesting in that the oppression is finally becoming overt and people are starting to notice.

Unfortunately for alternative media to succeed we will need alternative methods for finding the news along with alternative funding mechanisms.

SteemIt.com is an interesting start. Many things much be started for alternative media to truly thrive.

howdy empress! well steemit would have to fix the problem of new accounts not being able to do anything before it would do any good for them to come here. But it IS amazing to see that people aren't leaving the main platforms in droves when you think they would be.
