Believe it or not

Ripley's museum -founded by Robert Ripley- exhibits all sort of bizarre facts.. I was really excited to visit the Ripley's Odditorium in London as I'm a big fan of anything unusual and weird!

Jo Jo the dog faced boy

Fedor Jeftichew (1868 - January 31, 1904) was born in Russia with a rare genetic disease called hypertrichosis. His entire body was covered with long silky hair and the hair on his face grew over 20cm long! He travelled for years with the Barnum and Bailey Circus.

The lock-nosed woman

Disliking his wife's gossiping a Nigerian chief padlocked her nose, threatening to padlock her mouth as well unless she hashed. Mistaking it for decoration, the Djerma tribeswomen adopted locks as jewellery, wearing them instead of nose rings!

The man with the golden nose

Tycho Brahe (14 December 1546 – 24 October 1601), the world renowned Danish astronomer lost his nose in a sword fight against a fellow Danish nobleman and replaced it with a glued-on made from solid gold!

Midget in a cage

Alypius, a dwarf in Ancient Alexandria, Egypt, was only 43cm tall! He was imprisoned in a parrots cage for treason.

The Lizardman

Erik Sprague (June 12, 1972), is an American freak show performer, known for his body modification including his sharpened teeth, full-body tattoo of green scales, bifurcated tongue, subdermal implants and green-inked lips.

Rodney Fox

In 1963 Rodney Winston Fox, a South Australian film maker, was attacked and severely injured by a Great White shark. All of his ribs were broken, his lung was ripped open, his diaphragm was punctured, his spleen was uncovered, his artery was exposed and he needed 465 stitches to repair his torso and his hand. He is regarded as a miracle survivor of one of the world's worst non-fatal shark attacks.

The Alton Giant

Robert Pershing Wadlow (February 22, 1918 – July 15, 1940), also known as the Giant of Illinois, was an American who became famous as the tallest person in history. Wadlow reached 2.72 m in height and weighed 220 kg at his death at age 22.

His great size and his continued growth in adulthood were due to hyperplasia of his pituitary gland, which results in an abnormally high level of human growth hormone. He showed no indication of an end to his growth even at the time of his death.
