Visiting family Soon!

I am so excited to go to Montreal over the summer. All my relatives live there and I still have quite a few friends back East.

It is no secret that my family means a lot to me. I am fortunate enough to get along really well with them and as the eldest of four, I have always done my best to look out for everyone. Sometimes I may be a little too pragmatic but that is something my siblings will express freely if that’s the case. We can fight over things but at the end of the day we all value each other very much and find ways to communicate our feelings to each other.

My extended family also means the world to me; on my dad’s side that is where things are less tricky. Sometimes they try to bring mainstream values into my life but then, I remind them how bohemian I am and they know what that’s like because one of my aunts is also an artist. They do value art a lot so that helps bring us all together.

For Christmas two years ago, I gave a watercolour to each member of my family. This was a significant moment in my life, there were tears as my great uncle, a gay pioneer, was moved by my talent. That’s the only holidays I have spent with them since I moved here 7 years ago and we created some wonderful memories together.

I made this video sharing my excitement for this trip to come, I also briefly talk about Hasidic Jewish people as I will be staying with my mom in Outremont where they are very much a presence.
