Getting back to being me

in #blog9 years ago

I've been thinking about this for a while and I have to say that I have been prompted to do this by a post by @jonny-clearwater. Thanks for the push for me to get going!

If you've seen any of my posts then you'll be aware that I am a mum to an 8 month old baby. She's awesome by the way, but the purpose of this post is to declare that I am going to get back to being healthy and hopefully I'll start to resemble my previous B.C. self (Before Child).

This is going to be a challenge for me, but I'm up for it. The challenges will be:

  1. I no longer have a gym membership and it's not in our budget to join a gym, so I'll have to exercise at home or outdoors (I used to be a gym bunny and would go 4-5 times a week B.C.).

  2. I have a weekly budget for groceries that I can't exceed. That means limited funds to buy the kind of food I want but I will make it work. Here in New Zealand the price of vegetables and meats just keep going up. I will be using more frozen vegetables vs fresh. It also means that I can't get the good organic products I like!

  1. This may be TMI so I apologise, but I'm still nursing my baby so I am not sure how that may impact any results. Also, my girl is lactose intolerant so I'll be sticking to a dairy free diet (I've been dairy free for about 6 months now).

I would love to have my B.C. body back, but to be honest I really just want to get healthy and get my energy back - if that's possible with a baby that wakes 4-5 times a night.

You can hopefully expect to see regular posts from me on my progress to get back to being healthy and fit over the coming months.

Let's see how I go!!

Just off to bed (although keep saying that!) but just noticed your post so thought I'd offer a quick word of advice. Two great ways to optimise your health (for a cheap price) are both Kefir and Black seed Oil (nigella sativa) .. The kefir is excellent for gut health and your gut affects the health of the body in its entirety, a good gut health/bacteria balance will also optimise the uptake of any vitamins and minerals in the food you eat. The Black seed oil is an excellent all round health tonic that truly works wonders (just google it). Anyway, this really is my final message of the night (I think lol) so a goodnight to you. Oh and make sure you get pure Kefir grains, just add them to milk for 24hrs remove drink milk and then add them to the next milk (full goats milk is best) and if looked after they'll last a lifetime!

Thanks for your post. That information is really helpful. I'll look into those.

If you need some kefir grains, I can post some down to you. If baby is ONLY lactose intolerant, fermented milk will have most, if not all, of the lactose fermented out. But if she's also intolerant to the casein or whey, the kefir won't help much. But you can use them with goat, sheep or buffalo milk.

Thanks so much for that. I'll definitely let you know if I'm going to give them a go. I'm just trying to get back to basics for now but I might take you up on the offer soon - once I feel like I'm in control of things again. It's very kind of you.

Hi, I'm not sure of your situation in regards to space but growing your own veg and berries in pots with your own organic pottimg mix is a good way bond with children, even just some herbs on a windows sill looks great and provides minerals , add a cheery tomato plant your half way to a salad :) Chilies can be grown on a small plant as well, real good for you!

Thanks so much for those suggestions. I do have a small vege garden and hope to get it going again soon. We are just coming into winter here so not much will grow as it gets too cold. But I like the idea of herbs and chillies so I will get onto growing them inside. Thanks for replying.

So you probably already have a plan in mind but seeing as you listed them as challenges I'm just going to hurl suggestions which you can utilise or ignore as you like XD

  1. rug that child up and go for long rambly walks every day. Of the bush walking variety if you're up to it. Everyone seems to underestimate how much of an exercise a good walk can be XD Also apparently baby yoga classes are fun if you're into that kind of thing and have them in the area (I have no practical experience with this as kung fu and tai chi is my thing so I used to do stretches and the gentle warmups with babies and the more tumbley throwaround stuff as they got older but I've been told it's good XD)
  2. I feel you XD
  3. not tmi. If you're producing a lot you may have a lot of weight from the boobs so pay more attention to how you look in the mirror than what the scales are telling you (unless you have some medical issue where you need to watch your weight in which case watch what the scales are telling you but it's not necessarily an indicator of how healthy you actually are XD

I reckon you'll nail the healthy part, the energy part might be a bit more of an issue if bubs is still waking that frequently but your healthy eating plan will still help at least a little bit with that XD

Good luck, looking forward to your progress posts :D

Thanks so much. I always find your comments to be so helpful.
Yep, I think that walking will be something that we do the most. I get an extra workout from that because I have to wear the baby. She refuses to go in her pram! So it's like my own weight belt!
Yeah, I'm not sure about tracking my progress via weight on the scales. I've never really been a fan of weighing myself so I think I might track progress based on clothes size, measurements and photos instead of scales. I will probably take my weight as a starting point but won't worry too much if it doesn't move.
Thanks for the support. I'm hoping that by posting here I'll be held accountable so will keep me on track!

I only just found this.
