Nostalgia Sesh #1 [90's kids tv edition pt. 2]

in #blog7 years ago
In every one of us, nostalgia hits us in that special somewhere and it's a number of things that can trigger it. For some people it's music, for others it's movies or games, and for most of us it's a combination of all these that hit us in that sentimental sweet spot that we call 'nostalgia'.
In this post we're continuing from our previous Nostalgia Sesh, we're taking a look down memory lane, a look at something very close to my heart - 90's kids programs. Being guilty of being a 90's kid, many of these shows shaped and influenced the way I saw the world; for better of for worse.
So enough rambling and let's jump into it. In no particular order.

Daria

Daria has deadset got to be one of my legitimate alltime favourite tv shows, to the point where to this day I would watch old daria seasons with friends purely for the nostalgia and 90's aesthetic. Following the narrative of Daria Morgendorffer, a smart yet cynical girl, and her infuriatingly polar opposite sister Quinn Morgendorffer, you share the frustrations and aggravations Daria surrounded by people following idiotic adolescent trends and striving to fit in.

Rugrats

If you're a 90's kid, there is no doubt you remember watching Rugrats at some point in time. Who can forget Tommy Pickles, the absent haired baby and his crew of infants. Paired with his red-haired best friend Chucky, these two would get themselves into tricky and complex situations well beyond their years on a regular basis. As unrealistic as the whole talking babies gig was, it was an immersive show that showed how tough being a young infant or toddles can truly be in a world full of haphazard parents such as Stu and Didi Pickles alongside antagonists such as the ever-taunting Angelica - forever adding tension and suspense to the show. Overall a real feelgood show that's one for the whole family.

Rocko's Modern Life

Another surreal and straight up preposterous 90's cartoon that I looked forward to watching each afternoon, as soon as I got home from school. Rocko's Modern Life revolves around an Australian wallaby "Rocko" and his good cattle friend "Heffer" as the embark on numerous wacky and inane misadventures as Rocko adjusts to his new life in America. The show is absolutely littered with risky double entendres and subtle adult humour and innuendo that makes watching it back now as a young adult a right laugh.

Stickin' Around

A more rudimentary 90's cartoon "Stickin' Around" that won over the hearts of 90's kids all over. With it's wacky sense of humour and vivid imagery, Stickin' Around left it's mark on the nostalgia thermometer all over the globe. It centers around Stacy stickler and her best friend Bradley facing the perils of elementary school life and it's daily tribulations. Armed with nothing but a wild imagination, the two consistently find a solution that allows them to make it out the other side in each of these bizarre short episodes.
