Reviving a 10 Years Old Machine!

in #blog8 years ago (edited)

Been busy lately with lotsa stuffs again! So what have I been busy with lately?

I wanted to find a PC to do some DLive on some games. Am currently using a Asus G55VW. Yeah specification is enough but still not so ideal for me to play games.

I do have another gaming desktop which I have it for free from my brother. evil grinz Eventually it is not working but it is due to some parts seating problem. All I do is just taking out all the parts and reseat everything back. Still, it ended up became my 'theatre' PC which I use it for movies because I don't have a proper monitor for it. Might as well just chuck it to my home TV.

HERE COMES THE 10 YEARS OLD MACHINE

Plonk everything back.

Imagine after spending time putting effort doing so much maintenance work, took everything out, did a 'spring cleaning' inside the casing, and reseat everything back. Power on and STILL! No display no nothing, can't boot at all. Gotta revived this thing man for DLive!

So, I'd been busy testing out like mad. Thought was the GPU problem so I replaced it with my spare Palit GTX560 and still the results is the same. Tested it again with my brother's PSU and it is finally alive again!

After knowing it's the PSU that gave the problem, I went to survey for a couple of PSU models. Ended up buying this because it can be a spare for my brother's PC as well since it is rated at 650W. Also it could be for future upgrade purpose for my own PC. evil grinz

Run MEMTEST86 to check on RAM.

MEMTEST86 resulting in passed with 0 errors. Seems like other hardwares are fine. Hope I won't be replacing other parts... touchwood

It's alive!

Owh, I got this Samsung 27" LED monitor for free from my brother too. So long as he got a new PC, he will dispose his current PC to me... Looking forward for him to change a new one soon... :w

Everything is up and running again. I then swapped this 10 years machine for movie use and take the better PC from my brother for gaming and DLive purpose.

Let me have my game installed from my brother's STEAM account first. Yes, you hear me right, free games from my brother too... evil grinz

Overall damage: RM279
