Voting for a representative in an election is not democracy, in fact its the opposite. Our vote amounts to giving someone dictatorial powers for 4 years. The electorate have no way to hold their representatives acccountable other than not voting for them in the next election. Representatives can and usually do whatever they want all without our consent. Representatives fail to poll the will of their constituents.

Our political systems need a layer of direct democracy over our current representative system. Our representatives must be forced into accepting the direction of the majority of their consituents. Our representatives must be forced to truly represent.

We must demand that political parties adopt direct democracy tools into their party platforms.. We should demand that our representatives poll the electorate in their districts and accurately reflect their will in government.

The citizens in any level of government must insist on a direct democracy platform that enhances group collaboration and consensus. Many famous people have cited that online direct democrac is long over due. If you are not fixated on direct democracy as the solution to all political problems then nothing will change and we will just continue to watch from the sidelines as laws, budgets and polices are made unilaterally without our consent.

Respectfully, I must submit that I would be more confident in a direct vote platform if the electorate showed more conviction those few times that they do direct vote. Instead the continue to elect the same people into office who ignore their will and they do it over and over.

I see your point.. Of course people continue to elect the same people but that doesnt corellate their positive experience with referendums, initiatives or recall etc. Of course people are sheepish and continue to support the fairytale paradigm of representative democracy.

I have to agree with you.. but on the other hand citizens around the world have and continue to have good experiences with referendums , initiatives and recall

I live in California and it seems like that even when an initiative or a referendum is passed the powers that be find ways to circumvent the will of the people. Both voter sheepishness and established power need to be overcome. The swamp will certainly not look at direct democracy as a good thing.

i agree with all your points
