Muslim scholar; Abdul Karim Germanus

European Muslim scholars who spend almost half their lives defending Islam through his writings. He was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1301 AH / 1884 CE, under the name Julius Germanus. He passed a difficult time as a child and a teenager. However, Julius could pass through those dark days and successfully complete his studies at the University of Budapest.

After graduating from college, he decided to learn Turkish. To that end, in 1321 AH / 1903 AD, he left for Turkey and went to Turkish Language School at Istanbul University. In 2 years, he earned a Turkish Masters degree.

While studying in Istanbul this is the beginning of Germanus interest in Islam. He began studying the Qur'anic texts and continuing to extract information about Islam. When he returned to his country, he assessed many people who misunderstood Islam, so often a must argue with them.

Frequently involved in attempting to straighten out public opinion about Islam, Germanus decided to study Arabic and Persian. He managed to master both languages ​​well. So that in 1330 AH / 1912 AD, he was trusted as Professor of Turkish, Arabic, Persian, and Islamic History at the Hungarian Royal Academy in Budapest. He was appointed Chair of the Eastern Studies Department at the Budapest Economic University.

Upon exiting and at the University of Budapest in 1346 AH / 1928 AD, Germanus was invited to India to become Head of the Department of Islamic Studies at the Visva-Bharati University in Shantiniketan, Bengal. At the time he decided to become a Muslim and changed his name to Abdul Karim.

After studying classical Arabic in Cairo, Egypt, Abdul Karim again teaches at the University of Budapest. He served in this university for over 40 years as a professor of history and civilization. In 1382 H / 1962 AD, he was elected by the Organization of Iraqi Muslim Intellectuals as a member of honor and beyond Iraq. In the same year, he was also elected as a member of Arabic Academics in Cairo and Damascus.

Beyond all of these activities, the person who passed away on Wednesday, 18 Dzulhijjah 1399 H / 7 November 1979 AD, is also a prolific writer. His works include The Greek, Arabic Literature in Hungarian, Lights of the East, Uncovering the Arabian Peninsula, Between Intellectuals, The History of Arabic Literature, The History of the Arabs, Modern Movements in Islamic Studies in the grammatical Structure of the Arabic Language, journeys of Arabs, Pre-Islamic Poetry, Great Arabic Literature, Guidance from the Light of the Crescent (A Personal Memoir), An Adventure in the Desert, Arab Nationalism, Allahukbar, Mahmoud Timour and Modern Arabic Literature, The Great Arab Poets, and The Rise of Arab Culture.
