Lake Charlebois House in QuebecsteemCreated with Sketch.

On a wooded lot on Lake Charlebois, customers wanted to build a contemporary house, bright and open to nature. They wanted most spaces in the house to be level with the land.

The terrain is slightly sloping. During a first visit of the site, a perimeter was established to identify the ideal location. The privileged view towards the lake and the south coincide, which guided the orientation of the building.

An "L" shape for the plan of the house was chosen. In the "L" plan, one wing is reserved for the day rooms (kitchen, dining room, living room) and the other houses the night and more private rooms (master bedroom and bathroom). This type of layout allows all spaces to be oriented to the south and to the desired view. The "L" plan also makes it possible to define a sunny outdoor space, hidden from the neighbor's view and open to access to the water. Moreover, it is also in the hollow of the "L" has been arranged a room mosquito net to enjoy the evenings in summer.

At the meeting of the 2 wings of the "L", there is a volume on 2 floors. On the ground floor, there is the garage, and upstairs there is a guest room and an office that enjoys a strategic position overlooking the lake and also with a view below on the ground floor. On the outside, this 2-storey volume is clearly distinguishable from the "L" plane by materiality. It is coated with Corten steel which has already taken its orange color, while the volume in "L" on one floor is covered with cedar stained black. Inside, too, this distinction is felt by a double-height space between the two-storey volume and the one-storey volume. A staircase in Walnut cantilevered steps leads to the first floor.
