This was quite apparent back when I worked in the restaurant industry. So much gets thrown away. Especially things like soup. 50% of it was thrown away at the end of the day. Or when a plate gets sent back for some small flaw, It gets thrown away, and a new plate is made. I remember getting waffle cones for an ice cream promotion. In the meeting about the promotion they told us they expected 70-80% of the cones to break and be un-usable by the time they were shipped to us. They were so cheap to make they still made a profit after throwing so much away. If Americans ate out less we could make a huge dent in wasted food.

Yes restaurants are one of the most unsustainable businesses on Earth, yet people go there multiple times every week with no thought to the impact it has on the whole world and every living creature on it. So many wasted resources, so much unconsciousness...
