Stuck in a rut

in #blog7 years ago
When life gets too easy, we become lazy. When life becomes difficult, we panic and overload.

The reason an acrobat can walk across a balance beam is concentration on the task at hand. If they focused too hard on their feet, their center of balance would drop and they would fall. The only thing on their mind is the beam itself and the direction they need to move.

Work is rewarding, but its rarely enjoyable till you have a product you can think about in retrospect. When you have something you need to do but choose to procrastinate by running to things that embellish you in comfort, that comfort is tainted with an underlying anxiety. That anxiety gets worse the longer you avoid what you need to do until the anxiety itself overwhelms your ability to do the initial task and then its a slippery slope to a life of feeling like the victim.

Stop trying to hit multiple birds with one stone. Don't rely on luck. Focus on singular tasks you know you can accomplish and build from what you have control over. Once you know you can finish one task, future tasks don't seem so impossible. Start small, we are addicted to overwhelming ourselves because it leads to us running to things that make us comfortable.
