A visit to Banff - Blog#4

This week I have my family visiting over from Costa Rica. It's their first time visiting Canada. A must to go place that is close to where I live, is called Banff.

Banff is a town located in Banff National Park, AB Canada. It's located in the Rocky Mountains.

Since we arrived just before lunch time, we decided to go to a Gondola first before getting something to eat. We were greeted by this statue that resembled Santa with his deer, however this are horned goats pulling the gondola.

The Gondola gets you to the top of Sulphur Mountain.

At the top of the mountain they have a four floors building. The first floor has a café and a souvenir shop, as well as access to go outside to take pictures or do a small hike. The end of the hike is at the top of the other mountain (or is it the actual top of Sulphur mountain? I'm not sure)

Second floor is like a museum, with interesting facts about animals, geology, explorers, etc. Here is a skull of a black bear and a it's paw print.

Here's another paw mark of a bear compared to my hand, you can just imagine how big they are.

On the third floor there's a restaurant. And on the fourth floor you have access to the balcony to take great pictures of the town and the mountains.

After such an amazing view, we went back to the car and to Banff Town. We went to this place I like called "Elk & Oarsman". They had some Halloween decorations but nothing too fancy.

As usual, we got our drinks first. Since I knew that I wanted to get a burger, then I went ahead and order a pale ale.

Then I ordered the Elk burger (made with Elk meat, some type of animal that looks like a deer or a moose), with some fries and a brocoli soup.

The fries and the soup were terrific. However the burger could have been better. The patty was a little dry (maybe because of the elk meat), the mayo and bacon seemed to be at the back of the burger, so every bite was not consistent in flavor. Regardless, I still liked it.

After we ate, my family did some souvenir shopping while I took some pictures of the town. I would have shared the pictures but they look terrible so I'll post good pictures next time.

Just before leaving I bought some fudge. This is a "Bear claw", it's fudge with nuts and cashew, covered with chocolate and three pieces of cashew on top to make it look like a bear claw.
