DIY bathtub makeover

We recently purchased a foreclosure and it has an ugly green bathtub. That green bathtub had to go. So I decided to use Rust-Oleum refinishing kit. I used two kits because the tub has an enclosure.

The supply list you will need to do this project.

1. Rust-Oleum Tub and tile Refinishing Kit
2. Bleach, and comet for cleaning
3. 400/600 grit wet/dry sandpaper
4. Painting tape
5. Screwdriver to remove metal finishings
   6 Mini paint roller tray, handle, 3 high denisty foam rollers for smooth finish, and 5-6 sponge brushes for corners of the tub
6. gloves ( rubber thick)
7. Respirator mask
8. Fan for ventilation
9. Epoxy bathtub repair kit ( only if needed for any cracks or chips)
10. 2 paint sticks , and a piece of cardboard to mix epoxy if needed.

Step one: Take all metal hardware off even the drain hardware. Then clean your tub with the bleach and comet. You will need to make sure that all the scum and mildew is gone.

step two: If you have any cracks or chips use the epoxy tub repair kit, and use the directions on the kit to apply the epoxy. Use masking tape (painters tape) to tape on the outside of the tub so you don't get any paint on the wall or the floor. I also had a bar in the tub so I put tape around it so I would not get paint on it.

step three: After the epoxy has dried and the tub is clean, now you will sand the tub using the 400/600 grit sandpaper. It takes awhile to sand. You will keep sanding until the tub is completely dull. If you see any shine , you will have to sand it again.

Step four: After the tub is sanded and dull, you will wipe it down and make sure all the residue is gone.

Step five: This step make sure you turn your fan on for complete ventilation. You will wear your gloves and mask on this step. You will put can A into can B and mix until it thickens. After mixing the paint you put the paint in the tray and start painting. You will see bubbles but they will go away when it dries. The paint has to be used within 6 hours after mixed and opened.

Step six: It requires you let the first coat dry and apply a second coat of paint. I actually did three coats of paint on my bathtub. Step six should be your last step and it should be finished.
