As we traveled before and now

in #blog7 years ago

Before

The Repsol Guide, formerly Campsa, was as basic as the arguments of your parents for the interpretation of the maps.

Now

Google Maps, formerly TomTom, is as basic as the discussions between friends for the interpretation of the blue ball.giphy-9.gif

LOST IN PARADISE?

Before

Turning the map around until you find it working almost always. For when not, it was enough to lower the car window and ask a local, who gave you indications in most of the wrong times, and start again.

Now

Speak to a stranger? NEVER! You do not want to owe anything to anyone and you prefer to get the chestnuts out of the fire by yourself. Actually, it gives you dread to talk to a stranger and you prefer to spend half an hour rotating on yourself until your GPS is found to talk to someone random. You have a data rate, and you are willing to use it.

THE DURING

Before

In the 90's or at any date before today the inspiring phrases still seemed to us that, inspiring. That is why that "The important thing is the journey, not the destiny" mentioned by Kavafis in Ithaca, we adopt it as a mantra. The drive was an enjoyment, and we took it as such. To stop in any town of the Spanish geography to drink a coffee was supertypical, and to buy melons / watermelons / cherries / any local product in the trucks that were dedicated to the street vending, nor I tell you.

Now

The freeways are more boring than a rainy Sunday without an Internet connection: a linear, ugly and crowded tour of other cars that are even faster than you to reach your destination. What we want is to arrive, and also quick, that for that we are millennials, and for that reason it makes us lazy even to deviate towards a way of service that is not at the foot of road. Do you want to pee? Have thought about it before.giphy (1).gif

IT IS HEAT, IT IS HOT ...

Before

The long summer trips went on as best they could: a bottle of ice water that you had put in the freezer the night before and open windows. You could not have a conversation because you did not hear anything and ended up with the carded hair of so much air, but instead you had a landscape to admire, at point one, and as for the hair ... after all, it was taken.giphy-5.gif

Now

No air conditioning you're not going anywhere. But none. Is that although you have to wear a jacket, come on. There will already be time to warm up outside.

A SUN RAY OH-OH-OH

Before

The t-shirts or towels placed in the windows of the car exercised as a parapet between you and the sun. The 90's were pure class.

Now

Now there are parasols: black, Mickey Mouse or SpongeBob, but parasols. The future has come and is very boring.

MUSIC FOR MY EARS

Before

Before a trip you recorded a cassette tape with the big hits that sounded on the radio, if the announcer did not bother you the song in half, or you went from CD to tape your favorite disc because the car did not have CD's. When the CD came this was no longer a problem, but you still marked a varadito with the best of national and international music of the moment.

Now

If you can not afford a short ride on public transport without your Spotify Premium, how are you going to endure a car trip of at least half an hour? You follow all the festival accounts and you have created several lists called Indie Mix, Basic Classics and, why not say it, Reggaeton Essentials, although the latter you make sure to hear it in private session. If you are not in Spoti, you are listening to some podcast. There is no fault.
