Do things you're bad at

Athletes who are at the top of their game work extremely hard every day just to maintain their level or increase their performance only incrementally. Growth and development is always possible at any level, but it gets a whole lot harder the higher you climb the ladder.

In the middle of this year, I started running and swimming. On day one of each of these activities, I sucked real bad. The second time I did it however, I dramatically increased my distance and this cycle continued until I reached my goals.

When you're at the bottom, and you start learning or doing something new, yes, your bad it, but every day you do it, you get better, dramatically better. Your leaps can be sometimes 100% better than what you did the day before. This is powerful.

The process builds confidence. After realizing that you've learned or accomplished something new, bigger aspirations start to become more 'realistic' in our minds.

Starting at the bottom is never easy though. We need to be willing to look silly in front of people. In the initial phase, we're figuring things out and we'll make mistakes often in front of people.

If we're willing to push through this first phase, the second phase is much more pleasant and then it becomes fun. If we're willing to be bad at something, we can become good at something.
