Developing a Mindset for Success
Becoming an entrepreneur is something many people do overnight, especially in the home-based business industry. Therefore, it’s imperative that you learn as you go... or as I say, earn as you grow. When I started my first home-based business , I already had the mentality that if you worked hard for something you will gain success from it. But there were a few things that I didn’t know.
I didn’t know that a staggering number of people in the home-based industry drop off after their first month. I also didn’t know about things like “Success Coma” – when entrepreneurs reach a level of success and stop doing what works. Otherwise, resting on their laurels. Now don’t let me scare you away; there’s a reason I’m not “dropping off”. I’ve learned ways of developing a healthy and positive way of thinking that keeps me inspired to do my best.
It’s All About Mindset
So how do you stay positive (and motivated) when you’re not having a great week. When it seems like every prospect is telling you, “I'm not interested”, how do you bounce back and keep pushing forward? More than anything, you must believe in yourself. If you don’t, you’re hurting your business and possibly the company’s reputation. This can also hold true to lack of belief in the products or services that you’re selling. You must know without a doubt that your products offer a real solution to your buyer’s problems. Not only is this imperative for building motivation to go out and find prospects and buyers, but it plays a big part in how you come off in conversation.
Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you are right. – Henry Ford
People can sense when something’s not right. Have you ever called a lead without rehearsing what you’ll say? Those types of conversations come off shaky, at best. And your prospects can feel that nervous energy even if it’s on a phone call. That’s why it’s best to sell products that you use, you're knowledgable about, and that you believe in.
When You’ve Got It
Keep in mind that developing an entrepreneurial mindset is an ongoing process; something I hope you’ll never quit striving for. The truth is that as we grow and our lives change, we must keep focusing on meeting the goals we have set for ourselves. However, I put together a list of things real entrepreneurs do to give you an idea of where you should be…
Focus on just one or two ways to grow your business. The important part is learning and building on these strategies so that you’re dominating the marketplace in that particular area. Blogging and Youtube are my things, hence this article. So figure out what ways you can market your business online or offline and stick with them. Don't get carried away thinking that you have to become a professional on every medium out there. Often times people who take on too much never become proficient at anything.
Solve customer problems – As an example, let's say you're offering a financial service that helps people to make money or earn from investing their money. In this case you’ll be solving a BIG problem for your customer. They want to earn more money, have more time to raise their kids and go on vacations, or just add more time back into their day. You have a solution, but it’s the process of helping them understand how your service can really benefit them. That's when you put yourself in the client's shoes and develop a dialogue that will convey how you can help them to reach their goals.
Build a Team – This one really pertains to the home-based business industry. Serious entrepreneurs learn quickly that people want to join a team (or leader), not another buyer. Think of ways you can brand yourself and offer valuable perks for those that join with you. What training, tools, and resources do you have available for those who decide to join your team? Do you have a weekly call or training webinar that your members can attend? These are some things you should consider having available. And they should be mentioned in your marketing.
Work LOTS of Hours – If you want to grow your business fast (and I highly recommend it), you’re going to need to invest time for learning, building relationships, and working your leads. It’s up to you whether or not you put forth the effort, but all serious business owners work day and night if that’s what it takes. That's right, if you thought entrepreneurship was the easy way out then you'd be mistaken. However, it can lead to a much happier, fruitful, and financially rewarding life.
I’ll leave you with this: No matter what background you come from, or what industry you’re currently in, it’s never too late to develop a mindset that will allow you to prosper. One thing I've done from day one is remained teachable. I also follow those who I think I can pick up new skills from. To become a winner, stick with winners!
I agree, developing a mindset is key to being successful. Helpful points as well
