Wow!!wow!! Very great post @geekgirl. Mental illness is something i dont wish for my enemy. The alarming thing is the fact that mental is still been underdiagnosed. I think but i am not so sure , depression accounts for the second leading cause of disability worldwide. Added to that the deleterious effect of depression of which suicide ideations happen to be the greatest and this can pose a serious strain on families. Then the stigma attached to the diagnosis of a mental illness can cause more depression. The chronicity of treatment and not being sure of a cure. Like you said its often not medical. However with the little I know the treatment of mental illnesses now is focused using the biopsychosocial approach. Cognitive behavioural therapy has shown positive results. This post was good and the book looks like what i will like to read.. Great review
