The Bali volcation

Sorry for the absence lately but currently I'm on vacation in Bali !

Which is awesome,, except for the fact that the islands biggest volcano is about to erupt. (on the right side of the photo,, hidden between the clouds!)
Over 120.000 people by now have been evacuated and it is terrible for them to live in the uncertainty of going back to their homes..IF their homes are even still standing after all the quakes and trembles and a possible eruption remains the questions.. It is sad!

On all the corners in the street you see donation boxes manned with 2 or more Balinese people.
Tourism is their main income and if that would fall away due to the active volcano it will be felt by everyone on the island.

I get the idea from talking to the people here that the community that the Balinese have is very strong and I think they are going to be just fine. A woman explained to me that all the Balinese are there for one another like 1 big family, trying to take care of one another.

But even when all this is going on, a lot of people still just want to enjoy their vacation.
But can we 'as tourists' blindfold ourselves and just carry on.. It feels like a double-edged sword. Staying away will make it a economic and natural disaster. Carrying on as everyone is could give off the sign of not giving a damn about the situation.
'I just wanna have my 2 weeks away from work and not care about anything... I'll have a beer please.'

At this point I can only hope it all goes away fast.. the mountain calms down, the people return to their villages and carry-on with their life and the thousands of Aussie-doing-everything-here-that-they-don't-dare-doing-at-home-tourists carry on with their vacation.

In about 4 days I'll fly home.. unless the volcano erupts.. then I might have to stay a bit longer!
