RE: Is Being A Pro Gamer Worth It? What are your opinions?

in #blog7 years ago

I play Overwatch competitively, and have been somewhat following the emergence of the Overwatch League. OWL I find is fascinating because instead of teams being clubs that compete in prize pool tournaments where 60 matches happen over the course of a weekend where you can't possibly follow it all. Owl its modelled after the NFL with a round robin weekly match season that allows you to follow a team that has a defined geographic home base. Players have sustained dependable income with benefits, and an off season. This allows them to take breaks from the constant 52 week tournament season that can burn out players couped up in 17 person gamer houses. This is a healthy move to legitimise Esports into high quality entertainment that doesn't exploit the players leaving them without prospects our financial security at age 22 when they are forced into retirement by a loosing record.

Damn, that sounds awesome. We should totally play sometime, I just started my download before going to work. I haven't played close to 2 years, but it could be fun!

Sustainable income is a beautiful thing, especially if its done gaming :)
