Strange! Experiment Swapping Human Body It Works.
Scientists have now manipulated people's perceptions to make them think they have exchanged bodies with other humans or even "human bodies", experiencing the sensations that others feel and giving the illusion of being in the body of others.
In real life, cognitive neuroscientists at the Swedish medical university, Karolinska Institutet, managed to make the subject regard the bodies of mannequins and others as their own. The illusion also works even when both people differ in appearance or different gender. It also works whether the subject does not move or perform voluntary movements. However, it is not possible to trick the subject to identify non-humanoid objects, such as chairs or large beams.
A few years ago, scientists achieved the illusion of an out-of-body experience on the subject, using virtual reality. New research manipulates the brain further - out of itself and into other bodies...
In one of the new body-exchange experiments, the head of the doll statue is equipped with two cameras connected to two small screens placed before the eyes of the subject, so they see what the doll sees... When the eyes of the doll's camera and the subject's head are directed downward, the subject sees the doll's body where he usually sees himself.
The illusion of exchanging bodies is created when scientists touch their stomachs with two stems. The subject can then see that the mannequin's belly is touched when feeling (but not seeing) a similar sensation in its own stomach. As a result, the subject develops a strong sensation that the mannequin's body is his own.
