We refer to vegans, people who decide to suppress any food that has animal origin to, thus, respect animal rights as much as possible, opting for a healthy diet full of plant-based nutrients. But what is the difference between vegan and vegetarian? Next, in this article, we will explain what each of the two food options consists of and, in this way, understand how they differ from each other.

However, to contain such a strict diet, you must take into account the nutritional aspects of the menu that is followed to avoid falling ill or not provide the body with the vitamins and minerals you need to function properly. What is most affected by the lack of animal products are the following components:

Iron: is responsible for producing red blood cells so it is essential for our body. Betting on a diet rich in iron is of vital importance to a vegan person.

Calcium: it is essential for bone health and soya or soy is a product full of this mineral so it is important that you enter it in your daily menu.

Proteins: it ensures that our organs are strong and healthy, therefore, it is essential to include them in the diet. By not taking them in your animal version you can opt for vegetables such as soy, tofu, seitan, and so on.

Vitamin D: it is also essential for the health of our bones because this vitamin favors the absorption of calcium. Take
foods rich in this vitamin every day and you will get strong and healthy.

Vitamin B12: produces red blood cells and also helps prevent conditions such as anemia. This vitamin is found, above all, in fish and meat although there are cereals and meat substitutes that also contain it but in a very low proportion. A supplement of this vitamin is usually advised for a vegan.

People who are vegetarian are those who have decided to stop including meat and fish in their diet. It may be for ideological reasons, then, most people who follow this diet are against the big food industries where animals are abused to provide us with food; but there are also some people who decide to switch to vegetarianism for health reasons because, deep down, it is a very beneficial food plan for our body by incorporating a large intake of nutritious ingredients such as fruits and vegetables.

It should be noted that a classification of vegetarians can be established based on the food they eat:

Lacto-ovo vegetarians eat eggs and dairy.
Lacto-vegetarians who only incorporate dairy products into their diet.
Strict vegetarians who do not consume milk or vegetables alone.
Vegans who do not eat anything that comes from an animal.

Thus, the essential difference is that within vegetarians there are different ways of eating and conceiving food, but in the case of vegans, the idea is clear: no meat or fish is eaten but nothing is consumed that comes from the animals because, thus, it is avoided to intervene in their nature and to deprive them of freedom.
